Shadows surround the dwarf kingdom of Harrodarr and war rages at its gateway. A siege has forced the dwarven army into a dangerous last stand and the outlook is grim for all within the mountain. But there is a chance for hope if they can grasp it fast enough.
Nurocas is a Hammersong, one of the most elite of dwarven warriors renown for his fierceness on the battlefield. But now he has a new charge. A dwarf boy, chosen by their gods, must be escorted to a hidden refuge in the Far North. But they will be hunted by enemies both ethereal and of mortal blood. A genocide is rampant and all not of the blood of men are to be killed without mercy.
Nurocas must move quickly to get the boy to safety but he will soon learn the world is far worse than even the dwarves understand and no one can be trusted.
The Dwarven Guardian Lost Tales of the Realms eBook JT Williams
an oft used part of the stories of Elves and Dwarves. The old races are dying, and are being beaten by the evil and brutish men. In part, that bit of the story really didn't interest me, as we have seen that type of story usage more than once. But it is hard NOT to want to read of the Hammersong. Strong dwarven warriors, charged with protecting their clan from their enemies. In the midst of battle, from their deepest defenses,Nurocas and Slatnichor (believe me, i had to look that up three times to make sure i spelled it right!)
As far as short stories, i found this one a mite harder to get into than the first one of the Lost Tales of the Realm short stories. There is a lot more going on, and this more confusing.
Still, I give this five stars for the following:
Different take on an old idea
some interesting characters
background story of characters in his main series. (so yes, small story, but this is background of the major ones that you should have read already!)

A short, simple read. It seems geared for a high school reader. I enjoyed it.

Elves, dwarves, men, war, desire for peace, coming of age kind of tale. Loved it! Ready for much more! Cudos!
This was even better than the first part of the trilogy!! I am on pins and needles anticipating the final end to the trilogy! This is such a Phenomenal series!
J.T. weaves another great tail in his what is soon to become an epic saga! This ones follows a Hammersong dwarf as he protects his charge. This brings to light more of the war on magic and what happens between the HEC and the Saints of Wura!
